Employee RightsWhen you are given a contract of employment, generally, the main terms will not be negotiable with the employer since the contract is probably widely used throughout the organisation. It is best that you conduct all negotiations through us regarding salary. In most cases, this will not be negotiable, since again the salary will normally reflect a position within the organisation to which the employer will specifically recruit. Sometimes the contract will require a great deal of negotiation when share options and other complicated structures are involved. The JobTrust will be able to act as a sounding board for both parties at this level. The JobTrust will also be able to advise on the requirements of prevailing market conditions. Employees in the UK are protected against discrimination, wrongful and unfair dismissal. However, until you have been employed for one year an employee will have no right to unfair dismissal. Employees will be limited to their rights to notice. This must be at least the statutory minimum, which is one week. Generally, employers will provide for a longer period of notice but it is not unusual for the statutory minimum to be included in most probationary periods. The JobTrust is an equal opportunities employer and will not deal with employers who have a poor record under the relevant legislation for discrimination. |
